Did you know.... Clapham and Clapham Common

The common in Clapham was around 220 acre, the grass area is between Clapham, Balham and Battersea. Situated around the common are traditional houses which were built in the 1970's, these houses were home to many rich business people during those times. The 2 mounds on the Battersea Rise side of the common were built using with left-over scraps by the local Victorians and covered to form roller skating rinks. In 2007 a tree was planted to remember the actor Jeremy Brett, he lived locally before his sad death in 1995. Bandstand Grade 2 listed building 1890 the Bandstand was built in the middle of the common. In 2005 a partial lottery grant was given for the restoration project to rebuild the Bandstand back to it's full glory. Lambeth Council also contributed to the renovation cost.
